Corsica - Self-guided walking - 7 days  

CorteThe walks leads through the interior of the island from Vizzavona to Corte, from one hotel to another. You will traverse ever present and fragrant pine tree forests, tumbling, clear emerald mountain torrents and rock pools, remote villages and chestnut forests.
Discover, going along the GR20, the majestic forest of Vizzavona, the Vénacais region (famous for its cheeses), picturesque mountain villages and the historical capital of Corsica, Corte.


Program
Day 1
Arrival in Ajaccio, you may well have time to wander around the town of Ajaccio before the transfer by vehicle, or train to Vizzavona, a tiny hamlet. After settling into your accommodation there may be time to do a short walk.
A short warm-up walk in the afternoon through Vizzavona forest. Discover one of the most majestic sites on the island. Many Laricci pine trees cover the Southern side of the massif Monte d'Oro. Possible Walk to the bergeries des Pozzi.

Day 2
A great loop along the the GR20, Corsica’s granite backbone. The trail winds its way up through magnificent woodland to the Col de Palmente where you can enjoy fantastic panoramas.
13km, 5h30, +830m, -830m.

Day 3
Follow the GR20 path towards the dazzling Cascade des Anglais where you will discover the crystal clear, bubbly river Agnone, with its alluring rock pools and dramatic waterfall.
10km, 5h00, + 570m, - 570.
After the walk, you travel to St Pierre de Vénaco by train.
3,5 km, 1h00, + 200 m, - 50 m.

Day 4
Today’s walk is steep and challenging but very rewarding, offering some magical vistas of the valley below and the dominating mountain, the Monte-Cardo.
9km, 6h00, + 920m, - 920m.

Day 5
Today’s walk will give an insight into rural village life. You will discover a group of enchanting hilltop villages that could easily be mistaken for a landscape in Tuscany. You then arrive in Corte.
12 km, 5h00, + 560m, - 880m.

Day 6
A walk in the Tavignano gorge amidst Mediterranean vegetation of blue and black island lavender, curry plant and juniper. A great swimming and picnic spot, smooth sun baked rocks, inviting clear rock pools - a haven of wild beauty.
12km, 6h00, + 480m, - 480m.

Day 7
Today you have the option of returning to Ajaccio in the morning, or hiking to Punta Zurmulu, or visiting Corte’s history trail before taking the train back in the afternoon.
This walk to the Punta Zurmulu offers a spectacular panoramic view and allows you to discover Corte and its citadelle.

The walks are on good footpaths and trails, the terrain is varied but often rocky. You need to be used to walking and take regular exercise to enjoy this holiday.

The main luggage will be transported by vehicle between the different accommodations.
