From the Mediterranean to the Pyrenees Ariégeoises, in the heart of the sun blessed Corbieres region, or between Montsegur and Foix you can find the secret trails and castles of the chateaux Cathares.
These fortresses are the symbol of a tragic, political intrigue and drama that shook the South of France.
This walking holiday combines a historical interest that stirs the imagination, as well as some memorable walking through lush, unspoilt mountains and valleys. |

Day 1
From Quillan, your first walk will take you through mediteranean olive groves and vineyards to Puivert with its XII century castle.

Day 2
The trail leads through the thick fir tree forests of Escale and Picaussel. Discover the vast airy plateau of Sault via paths once used to access the valley of Aude and the Corbières.

Day 3
A path between high mountain walls slips down through the impressive Gorge of the Frau before arriving at the mystic village of Montségur.

Day 4
A walk from Montségur village along the steep rocky pog or, alternatively, a sporty option to the foothills of the Massif of Tabe.

Day 5
The trail weaves its way to the village of Montferrier through the forest of Modini to Roquefixade, an ancient bastide of the 13th century.

Day 6
From Roquefixade castle a high ridge offers permanent, stunning views over the small county town of Foix.
18.5km, 5h00, +350m, -720m. |
Day 7
The holiday comes to an end in Foix. You can choose to visit the old town centre, to wander through the streets and to visit the castle.
