Mountains to the Med cyclingfrom 690 €
Corsica - Cycling - Self-guided walking - 8 days  

CalviThis cycling holiday takes you through the varied landscapes of the Corsican mountains and coastline.
Heading south from Calvi, you pass the bays of Nichiareto, Crovani and Porto and the gulf of Galéria. You then head towards the heart of the island through charming villages surrounded by chestnut trees and the Aitone forest with its tall Laricio pine trees. You will travel across the Balagne, famous for its orange trees and olive orchards.


Program
Day 1
Start of holiday in Calvi. Free to discover the town.

Day 2
You now gain altitude, riding through the bay of Nichiarato and passing into wild countryside, where the plants and their marvellous perfumes have filled the meadows for years.

Day 3
Ride along a ridge path, where you can enjoy the amazingly contrasting colours that dominate this Corsican landscape. From the Croix pass you will have a splendid view stretching across the bays of Porto, Girolta and the cape of Scandola.

Day 4
You discover a new panorama, from the plunging rock faces of the spelunca gorges to the famous Aitone forest. As you progress further inland you will catch your first glimpse of some of the highest peaks in Corsica.

Day 5
After riding through the shade of the magnificent Laricio pine trees of the Valdu Niellu forest, you traverse the Niolu region which is surrounded by Corsica’s highest mountains. A descent of the Scala di Santa Regina gorges follows.

Day 6
From the Désert des Agriates, you ride alongside the River Navaccia, through the charming village of San Colombano, before making your way back towards the coast to enjoy the region’s fabulous beaches.

Day 7
You head down into Calvi, the town is visible from the Salvi pass. This a good place to stop, relax and take in the view.

Certain day’s cycling are not too long, given that they are mountain stages and the altitude gain is considerable. Daily distances will vary between 29 and 64 kms on tarmac roads.

You need to carry a small day sack only with a water bottle, camera, picnic and wind jacket.
The main luggage will be transported by vehicle between the different accommodations.
