Our trip gradings

Our trip gradings are listed below. If you have any questions regarding the difficulty of a walking, cycling or multi-activity trip contact us !

Walking tours

We have graded all of our walking tours to help you find your level of interest. The level of difficulty ranges from Easy, Moderate, Challenging to Tough. The trip grading and walking difficulty is described in daily detail in the Fact Sheets. Walking estimations are based on ‘effective walking times’ and do not include stops, picnics breaks and sightseeing.

Easy
Days are within 3-4 hours of effective walking with ascents from between 300 to 500m altitude per day. Accessible to beginners and to anyone in good health. Ideal for first-time walkers who lead an active life.

Moderate
The moderate grade walking holidays involve some longer walks, generally from 4-6 hours a day. The nature of the terrain presents little technical difficulty but some previous hill walking experience is useful. The ascents will vary from 400m to 800m altitude gain per day. This walking grade is suited to anyone who practices sport on a regular basis and maintains their fitness.

Challenging
The Challenging grade involves up to 5-7 hours effective walking per day on varied sometimes rough terrain, such as scree. You need to be sure footed and able to walk uphill for between 600 to 1000m per day comfortably at a steady rhythm. You need good stamina and the ability to adapt to different weather conditions. It is possible for one or two walking days that you may be required to carry overnight gear, ie toiletries and a sleeping bag. If this is the case details will be given in the Fact Sheets.

Tough
The tough grade requires that you are fit and have good trekking experience. The walks are long between 6-9 hours a day, maybe more. You can expect steep uphill and downhill sections with maybe up to 1000m altitude gain some days. The temperatures will range and weather conditions can be severe. Some days may require light backpacking.

Cycling Holidays

Easy to moderate
This category of cycle holiday is appropriate for anyone that wants an active and relaxing holiday. The daily distances covered will be between 25km and 35km per day depending on the nature of the terrain. These tours may have some ascents but nothing too long and steep.

Strenuous
These tours are aimed at experienced cyclists. You need to have plenty of biking experience and a regular practice necessary. Some parts of the circuit may demand considerable effort. Covering distances of between 40km and 60km per day.

Multi-activity

Easy
This rating is accessible to beginners and often involves an initiation into the activity without any real technical difficulty.

Moderate
This rating is accessible for those who have already experimented with the particular sport in question and have a certain experience. These holidays are ideal for anyone who leads a reasonably active life.

Sportive
Physically demanding these holidays suit all sports people.
