FAQs
If you have any questions about our holidays please don't hesitate to contact us !

Will I be walking in a group or on my own?
We offer group and independent holidays in Corsica, Provence the Pyrénées and Sardinia. Our group holidays can be guided (usually 4 – 16 people) or you can take advantage of our group reductions and holiday with a group of friends.

For self-guided walking you may be the only pair on a particular date or there may be several others with you. In either case you can choose your own pace. On guided holidays the size of the groups can vary between 4 to 15. Travelling in small groups really favours local contact and the chance to get closer to the places you’re exploring. You can expect good company with like-minded people

Are there lots of hidden "extras"?
All our holidays have a fact sheet that tells you what is and isn’t included. In general, airport tax, “tax de séjour”, visas, drinks, unforeseen transfers and historical visits are not included in the price. Tour Aventure is able to offer very competitive prices having negotiated with our local partners and hotels.

What if I need help?
Our team are always on hand to help, from the time you book your holiday with us and during your stay. We provide a 24 hr contact number which means there will always be somebody there to assist.

I’d quite like to combine a few days relaxing by the sea after my week’s trekking.
Of course ! We provide tailor-made holidays to suit individual requirements. Our intimate knowledge of Corsica, Provence, the Pyrénées and Sardinia means we can easily arrange extra nights, or weeks, in hotels for you or even arrange your travel to fit in with any other plans you may have.

Walking
What makes your walking holidays special?
The majority of our holidays are walking itineraries as we believe it’s one of the best ways to discover a region. Travelling on foot gives you the time and proximity to notice things that you would otherwise miss. You can absorb the sights, the scents, and the atmosphere, in a way that you never could on an ordinary holiday.

Tour Aventure’s walking holidays encourage you to explore the heart of the region, whether you are on your own, with a group, guided, or with our independent options.

Are the holidays suitable for children?
Please see Family holidays

How will I move my luggage around?

Most of our walks don’t involve carrying baggage.  This means you are only required to carry a few personal belongings in your day sack, such as a picnic, water bottle or camera.
Your main bags are transported each morning onto your following night stop.

For some of the higher mountain treks you will find, in the detailed day-to-day information sheet, if there is a night where you do not have access to your main bags and are required to carry a sleeping bag.

Will I have to carry a large backpack?
For certain walks we use the term “light carrying”. In this case you are required to carry certain personal affairs, (sleeping bag and change of clothes).

Accommodation
What kind of accommodation will I be staying in?
We have searched out a large variety of accommodation, from grandiose, gastronomic hotels to country inns or monasteries. We choose comfortable, locally run places with plenty of character.
If you’re off the beaten track you may be staying in a village gîte with dormitory-style bedrooms. The gîtes have a rustic charm and use local products and specialities.
Higher up, you may be staying in “bergeries”, small stone cabins that are home to working shepherds during the summer months.

What meals can I expect?
Your exact meals are detailed on your holiday fact sheet. The majority of your meals are included, but not all of them, in order to give you more flexibility.

What are the arrangements for lunch?
As a rule of thumb, we provide a pasta or rice salad, a variety of local cheeses, cured meats and fruit. On the self-guided holidays you can purchase your lunches from local boulangeries or delis.

Do your hotels cater for vegetarians?
Even if there is less choice and variety for the vegetarians, your hosts will always come up with an imaginative alternative to cater for different dietary requirements.

Have you tasted cheese and mint omelette, butter bean ragout or courgette fritters ??

See Maddy’s recipe of the week !

Do the hotels have pools?
Many of our hotels have pools that you can relax in after a day’s exertion.
Are single rooms or family rooms available?
Yes they often are, just ask us when you reserve.

Holiday requirements
Do I need to be very fit?
Our holidays are suitable for anybody who leads an active lifestyle and who participates in regular exercise. In order to get the best out of your trip we would advise that you keep up your fitness until right before you go. We have a grading system that gives you a good idea of the difficulty and the terrain involved. This information can be found in each holiday description.

Do I need to be a proficient map reader?
Our route notes are very comprehensive and user-friendly but you do need to be able to situate where you are on a map at all times. However, you are not required to have proficient compass skills. You need good weather-sense and to come equipped with the right gear.

How difficult are the walks?
Each type of activity, (walking, cycling and multi-activity), is given a difficulty rating. Using our symbols that appear on each page, you can quickly chose your ideal holiday.
